AI Terms and Disclosure
What our AI features do, who processes your data, and how you stay in control.

What these terms cover
These terms apply to the AI features in the BlinkFix app, on blinkfix.me and in BlinkFix Enterprise (the app and enterprise.blinkfix.me):
- the BlinkFix assistant ("BlinkFix Agent"), which answers questions and carries out actions in your account in your own words. In the BlinkFix app you can also speak to it;
- AI tools you start yourself: AI skins, which create a colour theme for the app or website from a short description, and the brand skin generator in BlinkFix Enterprise; imports from photos and files, which read a menu, recipe or product list from a photo or PDF you choose; recipe and dish photos made or improved by AI; translation of recipe text; AI designs for table codes; and turning a dish into a recipe;
- the Student plan check, if you choose the automatic reading of your student card;
- checks that BlinkFix runs itself, described in "Other uses of AI" below.
They are part of our Terms of Service. How we handle personal data is set out in the Privacy Policy. The AI features are provided by BlinkFix Ltd (company no. 13505930), 27 Old Gloucester Street, London WC1N 3AX, United Kingdom.
You are talking to an AI
The assistant is an AI system, not a person. Its answers are generated automatically by a large language model. Skins, imported menus, translations and photos are generated or read by AI and shown to you to check before they are used.
Which AI provider and model we use
- All AI features use one provider: Google (Google LLC), which runs its Gemini models for us. Requests go from our servers to Google. We use the paid tier only. We do not send your data to any other AI provider.
- What you send is not used to train AI models.
- The provider may keep a request for a short time where its terms allow it, only for security and abuse monitoring, and then deletes it.
- We use Gemini through Google Cloud's Vertex AI, on Google's global service, so a request may be processed outside the UK and the European Economic Area. The safeguards for that are in the Privacy Policy.
- If we change the provider, the model family or what is sent in a way that matters, we update this page, raise its version and ask for your consent again.
What is sent
When you use the assistant, each request contains:
- what you type, and the conversation so far;
- if you speak instead of typing (in the BlinkFix app), the words as text. The microphone is used only while you use the mic button or voice mode. Your phone's own speech recognition turns your voice into text: Apple's on iPhone and iPad, Google's on Android. That is Apple's or Google's service, not ours, and it may process the sound on its servers under its own terms. BlinkFix never receives or stores the sound. Only the text reaches us, and it goes on to Google (Gemini) like typed text;
- photos you attach;
- what the assistant looks up to answer you, using your own access. Depending on the question this can be: establishments, menus, prices and opening hours; your orders, bookings, favourites, recipes and shopping lists; your first name and saved location; and, if you run or work at an establishment or use BlinkFix Enterprise, its orders, sales, stock, staff names and roles, working hours, bookings and establishment details;
- fixed instructions from BlinkFix that tell the model how to behave, and today's date.
We never send your password or card details (we never have your card details). Only give the assistant what it needs, and do not share other people's personal data with it unless your request needs it.
AI skins send the description you type and your country (to pick suitable colours). The Enterprise brand skin generator sends the description and, if you upload one, your logo.
Other AI tools you start send only what the tool needs:
- recipe photo: the recipe name, cuisine, description and main ingredients;
- dish photo edit: the dish photo you choose;
- dish into a recipe: the dish name, description and ingredients;
- translation: the recipe text you choose to translate;
- table-code design: the establishment's name and type, the style words, colours and note you give;
- imports from photos and files: the file you choose, or its text.
What is stored
- Conversations stay on your device in the app, and in the current browser tab on the website (gone when you close the tab). Our servers pass them to the AI provider and do not keep them.
- A usage record: your account, the model, how many tokens were used and when. We keep it with the billing records to count AI credits, apply fair-use limits and prevent abuse.
- Skin descriptions are kept for 30 days in case a skin is reported, then deleted; only the colours stay.
- Your consent: the date and the version of this page you agreed to.
- A safety check result, for a video that someone has reported: the date, the model, the answer (nothing found, or what was flagged) and whether a person decided. The pictures are never stored.
- Anything you confirm on an action card (for example a new shopping list or an updated dish) is saved like any other change you make in BlinkFix.
How consent works
- The first time you open the assistant or use an AI tool, a screen names the AI provider, says it uses paid models that do not train on your data, and lists what is sent. Nothing has been sent yet.
- If you agree, we record your consent with the date and version. One consent covers the assistant and the AI tools. If you do not agree, the AI features stay off and nothing else in BlinkFix changes.
- Our servers check your consent on every request and refuse to call the AI provider without it.
- Withdraw at any time: switch the assistant off in your profile (the AI assistant switch in the app, or Profile on the website; in BlinkFix Enterprise under Settings), or email [email protected]. From then on nothing more is sent until you agree again. Withdrawing does not undo requests already made.
Our legal basis for sending your data to the AI provider is your consent, and for the data the assistant reads to carry out your request, the contract with you. See the Privacy Policy.
Actions and confirmations
- The assistant works through the same actions you can take yourself, with your own account's or seat's permissions. It cannot see or change anything you could not.
- Anything that changes data, sends something to other people or costs money appears as a card that you must confirm. You are responsible for what you confirm.
- Payments never happen in the chat. The assistant can only open the payment page, where you pay as usual.
Please check what it says
AI can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and it can misunderstand you. In particular:
- Allergens and ingredients: allergen information comes from the establishments. Always check the dish information and ask the establishment before you order if you have an allergy or intolerance. Never rely on the assistant alone.
- Prices, totals and money: the checkout and your receipts are the authoritative figures, not the chat.
- Business figures (sales, VAT, franchise fees, payroll or bonus totals) are aids. Check them before you rely on them for accounts, tax or employment decisions.
- Do not use the assistant for medical, legal, tax or financial advice.
To the extent the law allows, BlinkFix is not responsible for loss caused by relying on an AI answer without checking it. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer or our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Rules for using AI features
You must not use the AI features to:
- create content that breaks our Community Guidelines, including skins or brand themes that copy someone else's trade marks or logos;
- try to make the assistant ignore its instructions, reveal them, or act outside your permissions ("prompt injection" or "jailbreaking");
- process other people's personal data without a lawful reason;
- send large numbers of automated requests, or resell or build a competing service on the output.
We may limit, pause or switch off AI features for an account that breaks these rules. Fair-use limits apply to the number of requests per minute and per day.
AI credits
Some use of AI features needs AI credits. In the BlinkFix app they are bought through the App Store or Google Play, and on blinkfix.me by card through Stripe. In BlinkFix Enterprise credits come from the organisation's balance, which its admin tops up by card on enterprise.blinkfix.me or through the App Store or Google Play in the Enterprise app. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred and are not refunded once used, except where the law or the store's refund policy says otherwise. See the Subscriptions and Credits Terms.
Ownership of AI output
As between you and BlinkFix, you may use what the assistant produces for you (for example a shopping list, a menu description, a photo or a skin) for your own purposes. Output may be similar to output produced for other people, and we cannot promise it is free of third-party rights. You own the content you give the assistant.
Other uses of AI
- Imports from photos and files. When you choose to import a menu, recipe or product list from a photo or PDF, or to sort and translate a product list, the file or text is sent to Google (Gemini), on the paid tier, to read it and fill in a form for you to check. What you send is not used to train AI models. This happens only when you start an import, as part of the service you asked for.
- Safety check of reported videos. Videos go live when they are uploaded, and nothing is checked on upload. The first time a reel, story or advert video is reported, BlinkFix runs one automatic safety check on it. For this we send its poster and three still pictures taken from the video to Google (Gemini), on the paid tier. No sound and no text are sent, and what we send is not used to train AI models. The pictures are not kept; only the result is. The check looks for unsafe content and, for adverts, for restricted subjects: alcohol, tobacco and vaping, cannabis, gambling and adult content. It does not need the consent of the person who posted the video, because it keeps BlinkFix safe. If the check flags a video, the video is taken down at once and a person at BlinkFix decides whether to put it back or to take it down for good. The person who posted it is told that the automatic check took it down, what it found, and that they can ask for a review. If the check finds nothing, nothing changes. If the check cannot be made, the video stays up and a person still reviews the report. A video is checked once.
- Our support team. When our team handles a dispute or a report, it may use AI (through the same provider) to summarise it. Email addresses and phone numbers are removed before anything is sent. A person always makes the decision.
- Finding businesses. We use AI with web search to find public contact details of food businesses we want to offer BlinkFix to. No BlinkFix user data is sent. See "Business contacts" in the Privacy Policy.
- Student plan check. When you ask for the Student plan, you can choose to have an AI model read your student card, or to have a person at BlinkFix check it instead. If you choose the AI, you agree first; then the photo is sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini, paid tier, no training on your data), which reads your name, the institution and the validity date. Our system checks them against your account and your university email. The AI can only confirm a card that matches. It never rejects: a card it cannot confirm waits for a person, and only a person rejects it, with a reason you are told. There is no face matching or biometric check. Card photos are deleted 30 days after you upload them. See the Student Plan Terms.
- Automated decisions. We do not use AI to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. Moderation, student and dispute decisions that go against you are made by people, with one limit: the safety check above can take a reported video down at once, and a person then decides. You can ask for that decision to be reviewed (see the Community Guidelines).
Changes and contact
We will update these terms when our AI features, provider or what is sent change, and ask for your consent again when that matters. Questions: [email protected].
